Keep in step with the Spirit
Roger Day
Intro: You say I’m free… so why does Christian living feel like a battle? So far: You are full, free heirs of God (Curse cancelled! Adoption secured! Holy Spirit given!) ? So don’t lose your freedom: through “Jesus plus” (5:1…) ? So don’t abuse your freedom: use it to love (5:13…) Today’s Big Command: Keep in step with the Spirit! (5v16;5v25) Q: But why do we need to be told? (Given Galatians 4:6? Given Ezekiel 36:22-27?) 1. Christians, realise you’re currently in a tug of war! (5:16-18)

Do not lose (or abuse) your freedom
Roger Day
Intro: Freedom!! Galatians so far recap: Trusting Christ has made you full, free children of God (3:7-9; 3:29; 4:7, 4:31; 5:1) 1. So do not lose your freedom, by submitting to slavery!! (5:1-12) - Careful what you wish for: God’s gospel = 0% DIY top ups - Careful whom you listen to: God’s gospel = offence of the cross 2. And do not abuse your freedom, but use it to love (5:13, 5:6)

The Law and the Promise
Jay Parsons
3v15-18 The promise to Abraham and his offspring came first, the Law’s arrival didn’t alter or annul it 3v19-24 The purpose of the Law is to expose our sin and reveal our need of salvation in Christ 3v25-4v7 But now, by faith in Christ alone, we are all, equally, sons of God and heirs of the promise
