Mission: reaching and sending

chuttersnap-Ay5VDmOaKBo-unspla   Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

At Chalmers Church, our vision is to reach others with the life-changing, good news about Jesus Christ, build committed disciples of Jesus Christ, train gospel workers, and send out and support gospel partners.

We believe that the Bible teaches that we are called into God’s great plan to reach all the peoples of the earth with the good news about Jesus’ death and resurrection. This task of mission is current and urgent.

As Christians, we are all called to play our part in the great global mission of God, mission is the normal business of churches, and of individual Christians. It is our conviction that mission is not supposed to be a niche interest for a few keen people, but normal for all who follow Christ.

The goal of mission is that God would be glorified in all the earth. This happens, as we are obedient to Christ in reaching out to others with the gospel, and as men, women and children receive salvation, turning to God in worship. In the New Creation, there will be people glorifying God from 'every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages'. We believe therefore, that there is a priority for mission in places that have not yet heard the gospel, or where it is hard for churches to be established, due to persecution. These biblical convictions shape the priorities we have as a church in our locality. We seek to reach out to those in our community who do not know Christ with the gospel. And these same convictions shape the way we engage as a church with gospel work throughout Scotland, the UK, and the wider world.
